Often the first reason for upgrading a recreational or work vehicle is to increase the maximum weight the vehicle can safely and legally carry or tow.
The maximum total weight a fully loaded vehicle can safely and legally carry is known as its 'Gross Vehicle Mass'. The maximum total weight of the vehicle and its trailer is referred to as its 'Gross Combination Mass'.
A vehicle's maximum legal GVM and GCM rating is calculated, tested and certified by its manufacturer.
Driving an overloaded vehicle is not only dangerous for its driver and other road users, but also causes mechanical failure not covered by warranty, as well as legal and insurance issues.
To increase the GVM and GCM of a vehicle, there are many parts that need to be replaced or modified. Many additional factors need to be considered such as suspension systems, axle and wheel load capacity, as well as modification to the vehicle's electrical and braking systems.
Swank performs GVM/GCM upgrades using engineered solutions from JMACX, that when installed correctly from an authorised and experienced JMACX installer are legally certified.

In addition to GVM/GCM upgrades and coil conversions, many customers will extend the length of their vehicle chassis.
The standard weight distribution of a vehicle is very rear heavy. This gives poor off-road performance, especially when a vehicle is under heavy load.
By moving back the position of the rear axle, a vehicle's load distribution is shared more evenly with the front axle. This upgrade will improve vehicle drive handling and provide a smoother more comfortable ride.
An extended chassis will also allow greater tray space.
Extensions are done by cutting the existing chassis and spreading it apart, or replacing it altogether. The tail shaft, wiring, brake and fuel lines is also then extended.
The parts for chassis extensions are also provided by JMACX packages. With many customers opting to combine them with GVM/GCM upgrades and coil conversions.
